Why do Christians think the Nephilim are just mythology but Jesus is true?

I can not understand why Christians (in general) accept Jesus as fact but stories like the Nephilim and the whale that swallowed Jonah?

If you do believe the Bible please explainWhy do Christians think the Nephilim are just mythology but Jesus is true?
Good question. I know Christians who believe the Nephilim were real, I really did not know about them until about 6 months ago. I may have heard of them but did not remember. I'm not sure when it comes to a lot of the Old Testament, I don't say ';I can't believe that'; or Absolutely, it is exactly what it says';, I kind of stick with what I know is true, like Jesus. (You're right)

If they were really 'giants', maybe they were sometime like the Watusi of Africa who are often 7' tall or more. After all, the average man even in the Middle Ages was something like 5'5 (Don't quote me on that), in ancient times maybe even smaller, middle Eastern people are sometimes shorter than some Europeans.

If ancient people saw an NBA or NFL sized human, they might think he was something 'other worldly' and if they were enemies, well, it would be even worse. Why do Christians think the Nephilim are just mythology but Jesus is true?
I believe the story of Jonah is true, as well as the history of the Nephilim. I really don't know any Christians who don't believe it. One of the reasons for the flood was to destroy the Nephilim, and part of the reason that Noah was chosen to be saved was that ';he was perfect in all his generations'; (aka. no nephilim)
THE NEPHILIM, OR “GIANTS” OF GEN.6, ETC.

Source: The Companion Bible being the Authorized Version of 1611

The progeny of the fallen angels with the daughters of Adam are called in Gen.6, “Nephilim”, which means “fallen ones” (from “nephal”, to fall). What these beings were can be gathered only from Scripture. They were evidently great in size, as well as great in wickedness. They were superhuman, abnormal beings; and their destruction was necessary for the preservation of the Human race, and out of faithfulness of Jehova’s word (Gen. 3:5).

This is why the Flood was brought “upon the world of the ungodly” (II Pet.2:5) as prophesied by Enoch (Jude 4).

But we read of the “Nephilim” again in Numbers 13:33: “there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, which came of the “Nephilim”. How, it may be asked, could this be, if they were all destroyed in the Flood? The answer is contained in Gen.6:4, where we read: “There were Nephilim in the Earth in those days (i.e. in the days of Noah); and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became the mighty men (Heb. “Gibbor”, the heroes) which were of old, men of renown” (lit. men of the name”, i.e. who got a name and were renowned for their ungodliness).

So that “after that”, i.e. after the Flood, there was a second irruption of these fallen angels, evidently smaller in number and more limited in area, for they were for the most part confined to Canaan, and were in fact known as ”the nations of Canaan”. It was for the destruction of these, that the sword of Israel was necessary, as the Flood had been before.

As to the date of this second irruption, it was evidently soon after it became known that the seed was to come from Abraham; for, when he came out from Haran (Gen.12:6) and entered Canaan, the significant fact is stated: “The Canaanite was then (i.e. already) in the land.” And in Gen.14:5 they were already known as “Rephaim” and ”Emim” , and had established themselves at Ashteroth, Karnaim, and Shaveh Kiriathaim.

In Gen.15:18-21 they are enumerated and named among Canaanite peoples: “Kennites, and the Kinezzites, and the Rephaims, and the Amorites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites” (Gen.15:19-21; cp. Ex.3,8,17; Ex.23:23; Deut.7; Deut.20:17; Josh.12:8).

These were to be cut off, driven out, and utterly destroyed (Duet.20:17, Josh.3:10). But Israel failed in this (Josh.13:13,15:63,16:10,17:18; Judg.1:19,20,28,29,30-36;2:1-5;3:1-7); and we know not how many got away to other countries to escape the general destruction. If this were recognized it would go far to solve many problems connected with Anthropology.

Indeed, and it would go far towards answering many questions that I have always had about my origins and myself.

Jesus was on earth to teach and prove the word of God, for he is his Son . I am a christian and i strongly believe in Jesus Christ. about the stories i believe that it was to demonstrate the power of God's work and to display the fact that Jesus is not just another human being but of course the Son of God.
Which ones? I know of Christians, mostly yahoos on here, who insist that every word is literally true. I personally know a wide range of people who think there are various levels of literal events versus parables and metaphors. And I know of Christians, including some famous, well regarded ones, like William Blake, who think the whole business is metaphorical, and it's the story, not the man, which has redemptive powers.

Now, it should be noted that at the time when Genesis was being compiled and the writings of the prophets were being recorded, it was several hundred years before writings separated into history vs. poetry vs natural philosophy, etc. All was one. By the time of Jesus, it was a few hundred years after these distinction were starting to be drawn by Greek writers.

And it seem fairly obvious, even within Genesis that the the language before Abraham is much more mystical and metaphorical than the language once we get to Abraham (although even if that part of Genesis starts to veer into what we would call history, it's still far from being a historical text as we would think of the matter.) But by the time we get to the Gospels, even though the lines are still blurry, it's much more of a day by day account of Jesus' ministry, and most of the parables are either spoken by Jesus or performed by him (for instance, his withering of the fig tree is an object lesson, and the fig tree is metaphorical).
It's called ';cherry picking';....believe ONLY what fits your agenda, and scrap the rest. The single most obvious VICE of bible believers. The worst examples of 'cherry picking' revolve around Leviticus, and the so-called Mosaic code, which list a couple dozen ';abominations'; from which Christians choose the ones they can ignore...like the prohibition against eating shrimp or pork, or wearing garments of two different fabrics....or accepting that disobedient sons and witches and adulterers need no longer be STONED to death....but that gay men and women do not have that dispensation. They are the only biblical ';abomination'; that bible babblers still clutch to their bigoted bosoms, and refuse to give up. ';Cherry Picking'; with a vengence.

LottaLou:

And WHO, my dear, confirmed JESUS????

Biblical scholarship, after two thousand years, has still not been able to confirm the existence of anyone referred to as ';Jesus the Christ';....and give only passing credance to the existence of ';Jesus of Nazareth';. The quandry: even if there were proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed, it would not proof the existence of the false Christian Messiah.....especially since ';Jesus Christ'; invented by Paul and his followers, fulfilled NONE of the expectations of the Jewish Messiah.
Jesus confirmed the books of Moses %26amp; also the book of Jonah.

Jesus said like Jonah was in the whales belly for 3days %26amp; 3nights, so will Jesus be in the heart of the earth. (Jonah died too.).

Jonah came back to life %26amp; went to Ninevah %26amp; they were saved. Jesus raised from the dead %26amp; brings Salvation to all nations. Starting from Jerusalem.

The Nephilim were terrorists... In Genesis6, the sons of God (winged Cherebims) came down %26amp; had sex with women %26amp; had babies. These babies were the Nephilim. And all creation become so corrupt that the earth was filled with violence.

That Gods heart was grieved (The Holy Spirit was grieved). And the people always resisted the Spirit of Jehovah %26amp; their thoughts were for evil continually.

Some Christians don't believe all the bible. But I believe it all, because Jesus confirmed them. And they all prophecy of Him, the Redeemer of mankind.

In Genesis3:15, the Seed of the Woman (Jesus) will defeat the seed of the serpent. Thus defeating the curse of sin %26amp; death. By the fall of the 1st Adam, we all inherit the sin nature. But by the righteousness of the Last Adam, we all may inherit eternal life.

When satan lured the winged cherebims to leave their God given position %26amp; rebel. This is believed to prevent the Savior to come %26amp; prevent man from getting back the authority of mankind over death.

And the devils schemed worked too much. That is why God's heart was grieved that He repented He made man.

Jesus isn't like those fallen Angels. In the beginning Jesus is the Word of God. Is God with God. The Word of God is from everlasting to everlasting. He wasn't an angel of God, created by God.

In the Beginning Elohim (God) created the heavens %26amp; the earth. God the Farther, Word %26amp; Holy Spirit Is One Creator God.

God created first the Holy Angels.

Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God. Born of a virgin, conceived by the Holy Spirit (God).

Jesus Father is not one of the winged Cherebims created by God. As the Nephalim had disobedient winged Cherebims for dads.
I think the Nephilim actually existed, but I tend to take a more literal view of the Bible. Besides, since they all died in the flood, their DNA is no longer a part of the earth's genealogy and it really doesn't matter.
Worst troll question of the day. The Nephilim were the ';fallen ones';. If you studied ancient Hebrew, you'd know that. If you read past page 10 of the Bible, you'd know who the ';fallen ones'; were.
Bible believing Christians believe the Bible so you must be talking to liberal Christians, or today's half and half Christians. They are not for sure what they are.
I don't believe the Nephilim or Jonah was mythology. I believe they are as true as the rest of God's Word.
I don't have this problem, myself. I cannot explain other people's issues.
I know the Nephilim existed.
When I was a Xtian, I believed in all of the above.
